This year’s graduating medical school class at Western University has overwhelmingly chosen to specialize in family medicine at a time when 2.3 million Ontarians don’t have family doctors.
Forty-five per cent of students finishing at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will start their family medicine residency in July at various schools across Canada.
Western University said when the new school year starts this fall, classes will also be at-capacity with residents training in family medicine.
“We are thrilled to have filled our program to capacity again for next year,” Chair of Family Medicine Dr. Scott McKay said. “We will be training 84 new family doctors at hospitals and clinics across our region, which will greatly benefit all of the communities we serve, from Owen Sound to Windsor.”
