Ancient Rock Art in Alabama Unnamed Cave 19

This cave received a lot of national attention and made headlines in scientific news outlets such as National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine, and Science.org. It also made headlines in newspapers such as the NY Times. It all started when University of Tennessee archaeologist Jan Simek and Steven Alvarez, founder of the Ancient Art Archive published a paper in the journal Antiquity describing how they used new technology to piece together cave imagery on the walls inside this cave.

Come along with us as we show you the 1500 year old Native American Mud Glyphs in Alabama’s Unnamed Cave # 19. It is estimated these were made by Indigenous People between 500 AD and 1000 AD.

Also in this cave are post-civil war signatures as well as peccary tracks from when they lived in this region.
