CAA Notification: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 30 indigenous organisations will burn copies of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) across Assam, AASU functionaries declared on Monday. “We will continue with our non-violent, peaceful, democratic movement against the CAA. Alongside, we will also continue our legal fight,” AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya told news agency PTI.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government notified the implementation of the contentious amendment, which was approved by the Parliament in December 2019. After the amendment received the President’s assent that same year, massive protests erupted in various parts of the country.
