At least seven people are dead, including the attacker, as a result of a stabbing spree at Westfield Bondi Junction, a six-level shopping centre in Sydney’s east. A lone man walked through the shopping mall wielding a knife, stabbing people apparently at random. He was chased by a lone senior police officer and shot dead. A shopper earlier tried to confront the man on an escalator. The NSW assistant police commissioner, Anthony Cooke, says there was ‘nothing at the scene that indicated any motive or ideology’
