BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Catherine Cooke took the oath to join the Brunswick County Board of Education at a meeting on Monday, March 25.

The county Republican Party recommended she serve the remainder of David Robinson’s term after he passed away last month.

Cooke rejoins the board after previously serving three terms and her current term will end in December.

“I think probably the biggest thing is COVID, that was a big factor when I left the board. We were just getting into the throes of COVID-19, so I think that has a lot of impact on student learning and things like that. I haven’t really looked at the statistics for Brunswick County, I’ve looked at the state’s statistics. But I would be interested in to see what kinds of things we need to do to continue to get kids the best education out there,” Cooke said.

No candidates signed up to run against her in November.
