Chesterfield nonprofit provides resources to schools in need [Video]

Throughout her life, Martha Mason Hill believed in the value of education, which was demonstrated in part by sending the seven children and two grandchildren she raised off to college.

Today, Hill’s family is continuing her mission through the Martha Mason Hill Memorial Foundation, which provides resources to Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Members of the Martha Mason Hill Memorial Foundation donate books to middle school students and faculty at Carver Middle School in Chester on Feb. 8.

“When she died, my sisters and I decided her legacy was worth carrying on,” Hill’s daughter Alberta Stith said. “We established the foundation in her name and her memory, carrying on her spirit of caring and giving and promoting education, higher education particularly.”

The nonprofit was established more than 25 years ago to grant scholarships to Chesterfield students. Since then, the foundation has added numerous outreach initiatives to help schools in the county.
