A GROCERY store chain decided to make a major change to its self-checkouts at a location.
Canadian Tire has followed Walmart’s lead by removing all self-service kiosks at one branch.
The owner of the location, in North Bay, Ontario in Canada, said several factors played in their decision, according to CBC News.
Owner Dwayne Ouelette removed the machines in July 2023.
“I’m not comfortable using them and I don’t think some of my customers are comfortable [either],” Ouelette said.
“I’d rather my customers see my cashiers and if there’s any questions or concerns, at least there’s somebody they can talk to.”
The four machines that were removed had been used at the store for a decade.
This location’s general manager Derek Shogren said shoplifting was partly to blame for the move.
