A spring storm is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to the Greater Toronto Area and parts of southern Ontario this evening.

Here’s what to expect for the next couple of hours:

When will the heavy rain arrive?

A special weather statement remains in effect for Toronto and surrounding areas, warning of 25 to 50 millimetres of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.

“A Colorado low is expected to begin affecting the region tonight. Rain, which may be heavy at times, is expected to begin this evening and continue into Wednesday,” the advisory reads.

Environment Canada added that very strong easterly winds with gusts possibly exceeding 80 km/h are expected in some areas this evening.

Power outages could be possible due to the high winds, the advisory warned.

The winds will ease on Wednesday.
