Jackie Shane, the trailblazing trans soul singer who dominated Toronto’s music scene in the 1960s, is the subject of new doc “Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story,” which screens at Hot Docs. Directors Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee say after a year of trying to reach her, the reclusive singer spent “hours and hours” telling them her life story before she died in 2019.
