ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – No musher in the last decade has dominated the trails of the Interior quite like Brent Sass.

Sass logs many of his training hours on the trails around his remote homestead in Eureka, Alaska. His familiarity with the trails and hardened resiliency to the elements of the area are proven every year at the Yukon Quest — no matter the format.

At 9:48 a.m. Monday, Sass reached the Central finish of the 2024 Yukon Quest Alaska 300 with Ace and Slater, from his 2022 Iditarod championship team, in the lead after nearly two days of racing across the Interior. Of the 13 mushers who took off from the startling line in Fairbanks on Saturday, all but two finished the race.

Sass won the traditional 1,000-mile Yukon Quest from Whitehorse, Yukon, to Fairbanks in his ninth attempt back in 2015, but it was in 2019 when his Quest reign really began.
