Mid-Prairie School District sees decrease in stop-arm violations with new technology [Video]

WELLMAN, Iowa (KCRG) – New technology is helping to cut down on school bus stop arm violations. Earlier this year, we told about an increase in violations in the Mid-Prairie School district — drivers not stopping for a school bus when its lights and stop arms are activated.

In a three week period, district leaders said it saw around ten violations.

After working to raise awareness on the issue by reaching out to local media outlets, the transportation team at Mid-Prairie reached out to a Canadian-based company called First Light Safety Products.

The company sent some of its products to see if they could help.

”I just can’t imagine how you cannot stop for a stopped school bus,” said Mid-Prairie School Bus Driver Chuck Rogness.

After an increase in stop-arm violations, the Mid-Prairie School District partnered with First Light Safety Products to see if they could work to curb the issue.
