OKLAHOMA CITY — It was a tearful Tuesday morning in the Oklahoma State Senate as the chamber’s leader recalled a car accident that nearly claimed the life of his son and a Canadian County sheriff’s deputy.
The moment came during a debate not over the crash itself, but the traffic stop that happened before hand that some say should have never happened.
“I don’t typically get emotional about car tags, but as you all know, on January 5th, my life was turned upside down. I ask you to vote on this bill. I can’t talk about it,” State Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat (R-Oklahoma City) said.
Treat’s son was pulled over on January 5th in Canadian County within the Oklahoma City metro area. He did not have a license plate on his car and he didn’t have to have one with the way current state law is written.
