‘Nonsense’: Calls for government to ‘stand up’ to activists delaying highway upgrade

Victorian Liberal MP Bev McArthur says the government has got to “stand up” against activists and upgrade a highway in Victoria.

Ms McArthu’s comments come after a $157 million highway upgrade was delayed following activists claiming its proposed route will go through Aboriginal land.

The Victorian Liberal MP described it as a “shocking situation”.

“You can only say these activists put cultural heritage so-called ahead of people’s lives,” Ms McArthur told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“This is a dangerous road; it needs fixing.

“The government’s just got to stand up to this nonsense and build the road as it should be best built and put aside all this nonsense.”
