Speaking at the annual Parliamentary Press Gallery Dinner in Ottawa on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada “unequivocally condemns” Iran’s attacks on Israel.

His statement came after Iran’s state-run media announced Tehran had fired ballistic missiles at targets inside Israel on Saturday in what was Iran’s first direct military attack on the country. Israel also reported that Iran had fired more than 100 bomb-carrying drones in its direction.

The event, which is a tradition in Canadian politics, brings together journalists, politicians, and other prominent figures to celebrate the freedom of the press and the important role it plays in democracy.

As one of the most high-profile events on the Canadian political calendar, the dinner featured speeches and awards with journalists from across the country.
