RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – On Saturday, May 4, the Red Ribbon Skirt Society will host its 2nd annual Red Dress Gala: Expressing the Silence of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women: The Influence of Art at the Holiday Day Rushmore Plaza located in Rapid City from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Red Ribbon Skirt Society was founded in 2016 by Lily Mendoza to bring about awareness and education on the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children, and Two-Spirit. “We work with families across South Dakota and beyond, helping and supporting them as they navigate through the grieving process,” Mendoza stated.

The Red Ribbon Skirt Society helps with financial support to MMIW families with food for wake services and funerals, search and rescue support, and travel expenses. “There are instances where families and funeral homes that work with tribes can’t afford the total cost to transport the victim …
