RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – The Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board held its second annual Fatherhood Symposium in Rapid City aiming to bring awareness of the importance the role of fatherhood plays in Native culture.
Advocate and educator Jim Warne believes one of the cultural elements missing in today’s day and age is young men not knowing what it’s like to be a warrior.
“It’s even hard for many people to say I love you and that’s something I want our young warriors to know that being a warrior is a family man. Being that nurturer. Working in partnership with your wife and making sure those kids have an opportunity to be raised in an environment knowing who they are,” Warne said.
