CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — A local nonprofit is trying to bring awareness to health care in indigenous communities through a fundraiser this weekend.
Sisters Project Peru will be hosting a silent auction on Saturday at Kardinal Hall where they will auction off art made by UVA students from 5 to 8 p.m.
All proceeds will be going to build a medical clinic in a rural village in Peru called Wakawasi.
“We’re also going to have a collaborative art project there for people to engage with just to kind of think a little bit more critically on what health care access means to them,” said Maya Koehn-Wu, co-founder of Sisters Project Peru.
They are also raffling off art that women from the village made. For more information, go here.
