LOVINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police have released more information on a police shooting Sunday morning in Lovington. They say the Lovington Police Department responded to the area of West Ave. over an unwanted subject call around 8:30 a.m.
New Mexico Supreme Court rules no double jeopardy for man who killed roommate
Police identified Luis Raul Bernal-Alvaraz who had several active arrest warrants for failure to appear in court. Bernal-Alvaraz was seen leaving the residence when officers instructed him to stop but he then fled the scene in a black GMC Yukon. He was not hit.
Police say Bernal-Alvaraz later crashed through a barbed wire fence near East McDonald Rd. in Tatum, New Mexico. He attempted to flee on foot but was tased and arrested. Bernal-Alvaraz is facing charges including aggravated fleeing.
