NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After the Bridgestone Arena court cleared following Florida’s 95-90 SEC Tournament semifinal win over Texas A&M men’s basketball Saturday, Florida’s broad-bodied mascot, Albert, figured he’d have a go at a 3-point attempt.
Needing to use the costume’s comically short right arm to pull his snoot out of the way, only a left hand remained available to execute the feat of athleticism. Despite the kinetic improbabilities of attempting the one-handed, short-armed distance shot, probability was on Albert’s side.
In the previous 40 minutes of game play, his human counterparts hit 14 of 26 from behind the arc against the Aggies (20-14). That 53.8% clip from 3-point range was the highest the Gators have shot all season, having entered Saturday’s contest ranked 143rd in the nation in 3-point percentage at 34.6%.
