SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) – An unrestrained driver was seriously injured after his SUV rolled several times after it veered off I-435 over the weekend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log indicates that around 7:05 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, emergency crews were called to the area of southbound I-435 and 53rd St. in Shawnee – near Lake Quivira – with reports of a single-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Gary D. Williams, 61, of Gladstone, Mo., had been headed south on the interstate in the third lane.

For an unknown reason, KHP said the SUV veered off the road to the right where it then rolled several times.

First responders noted that Wiliams was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
